A lot of gear is designed for specific types of climbing so if you are going on a special climb then you may need to buy some new climbing gear. The following is an outline of all the different gear used in rock climbing.

Rope - Ropes are an essential piece of gear that you will likely need. Climbing ropes are designed with a core made of twisted fibers and an outer sheath of woven fibers. The core creates the strength of the rope while the sheath makes the rope durable. Ropes come in two main types. Dynamic ropes are used for safety to catch a falling climber. Static ropes are used to anchor a climber.

Carabiner - Carabiners are connectors. They are made of metal and spring loaded to allow for them to be easily clipped and unclasped. Most of the carabiners on the market are made to be light weight and are aluminum alloy. There are different sizes and types of carabiners. You should choose the style that best suits the type of climbing that you will be doing.
